Elderly Man, Teenager Killed in Washington County Collision

An elderly man and a teenager were killed in a collision in Columbia on Friday afternoon.

Police told WABI-TV that 83-year-old Darold Ames and a 14-year-old boy were killed in the accident just before 1:30 Friday afternoon. They were passengers in an SUV driven by 43-year-old Angela Skidgel of East Machias. Skidgel's vehicle crossed the center line and the driver of a tractor trailer couldn't avoid colliding with it. Drivers of both vehicles were taken to an Ellsworth hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Route 1 in Columbia was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared. This crash remains under investigation.
