Downtown Bangor Staple Celebrates Its Last Day Today
The Franciscan Friars' Bakehouse in Downtown Bangor has been a staple eatery for Bangorians for years but says goodbye today with one last lunch.
The Friars are planning on a move to Bucksport where they will expand to not just serve lunches and baked items, but grow their space to include a tap room.
The Bangor icon started 18 years ago and has been a two-man operation. It has been known in the area for its large portions, special daily menus, whoopee pies and award winning beers. Oh, and don't forget cash-only and you better turn your phone off (I learned both of these the hard way).
The Friars will continue their online legacy with a new destination on Facebook as well. You will now be able to follow them at Friars' Brewhouse Tap Room.
We say a fond farewell to our favorite Friars, Brothers Donald Paul and Kenneth Leo, as they start their new adventure in Bucksport.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. you can enjoy their final menu today. Choose from:
- Haddock Chowder
- Chicken Pot Pie
- Chicken Salad Sandwich
- Tomato Bisque
