Mainers May Soon Be Able To Have Alcohol Shipped To Their House
It's hard to ever find much good to say about the pandemic. But one thing everyone pretty much unanimously agreed with was the ability to have hooch delivered to your door. After all, it's a pandemic, and people want to drink, they just don't want to leave the house to get it.
However, say you wanted beer from a craft brewery downstate. If your local beer store didn't carry it, you're pretty much out of luck. On the other hand, if someone in New Hampshire wanted that same beer, that brewery could ship it right to that customer's house, no problem. But in Maine, you can't even send it across the street.
There are a couple bills being put forward right now that could change that, according to Fox ABC Maine. One bill looks to ease restrictions on the shipping of beer, and the other looks to make it possible to order wines from out of state. Right now, that is also not allowed on our books.

There are certainly arguments to be made on both sides. Some folks argue that this would encourage folks to purchase alcohol out of state and make a dent in local sales, while others think that the current law prevents local businesses from making money right here in our state.
There seems to be a lot of support behind changing these laws, and in these days of Amazon, etc. and being able to buy just about anything in the world online, maybe it's time to re-think the way we do some things? Look not everyone will be happy no matter what, so wouldn't choosing the option to make more money be the best one?
Again, you can please some of the people all the time..... But this seems like something folks will want. And if it's the legislature's job to do what the people want, maybe they should listen up on this one, and see what the people say.
