Growing up I was taught to respect and appreciate the sacrifices of the men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. That is why I am grateful when folks step up to help our veterans.

The Maine Veterans Project "is a Downeast Maine nonprofit organization dedicated to providing services to Maine veterans and their families." Members of the team caught wind that a Veteran had passed away without any family or friends nearby. So they went right to work, putting out a call to action for anyone with time to spare, to come and ensure that this gentleman received the honorable send-off he deserves.

"...veteran being laid to rest May 12 at 1000 in Augusta. If you wish to pay your respects, please help honor this veteran."

According to his obituary, Mr. Linwood Ray passed away at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor on April 19th of this year.
"Linwood served 8 years with the US Air Force from 1965 to 1974 during the Vietnam era. A graveside service with military honors rendered by the US Air Force will be held 10 AM Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta."
Since sharing the information and asking folks to consider taking some time out to honor Ray, many individuals, veterans groups, and organizations have said they plan to attend his sendoff.
Having been present at a fair number of military funerals, I can tell you that they can serve as a powerful reminder of just how amazing the commitment is that these veterans make to our country.
If you have a moment to spare and can make it to Augusta Thursday morning, won't you consider stopping by to pay your respects?
