Search Continues for Missing 18-Year-Old Maine Lobster Fisherman

Maine Marine officials and others are looking for an 18-year-old lobster fisherman after his boat was found unattended.

How Did Authorities Learn That He Was Missing?

Tylar Michaud of Steuben was working on his own Friday in his boat, Top Gun, checking and baiting his traps off Petit Manan Island. Officials were notified when he failed to return from that trip. On Friday night, the boat was found near Jonesport but there was no sign of Michaud. Petit Manan Island is two-and-a-half miles south of Petit Manan Point in the town of Steuben, Washington County, Maine.

Who's Searching for Him?

According to the Portland Press Herald, Coast Guard officials have been battling heavy fog in their search for the lobsterman. In these cases, a helicopter is typically used to search the water, but the fog has made visibility challenging. Several local boaters, both recreational and professional, have joined in the search for Michaud, but there's been no sign of him, thus far.

Will the Search Continue on Sunday?

The Maine Marine Patrol said in a media release that they will continue to search for the missing lobsterman, however, WABI-TV says the Coast Guard reportedly dropped out of the search, after 40 hours dedicated to finding Michaud.
