Michael Olsen, 71, of Clifton, is charged with domestic violence and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
The charges stem from an incident that began at approximately 5:15 am on Monday.
Penobscot County Deputies Respond to a Report of Domestic Violence in Clifton
Dispatchers with the Penobscot Regional Communications Center received reports about a domestic violence situation on Route 9 in Clifton. The caller told authorities that the victim had allegedly faced threats involving a firearm.
Members of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office responded and set up a secure perimeter around the residence.
Officials say the victim was able to exit the home safely and was not hurt in the incident.
Crisis Negotiators worked with the Sheriff's Office Special Response Team and others in a standoff that lasted several hours.
Finally, the male suspect was successfully guided out of the residence and surrendered peacefully to law enforcement.
