The City of Bangor has set a deadline for accepting applications for help replenishing food lost to the power outage.

This deadline does not involve folks currently receiving benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. Rather, it deals with Bangor residents who are not receiving state benefits, but need help stocking their refrigerators and freezers after losing groceries due to several days without electricity.

City officials say they will not accept applications for food replacement after Monday, November 13th. Health and Community Services staff are accepting walk-ins that need assistance during normal business hours, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office will be closed on Friday, November 10th, however, in recognition of Veterans Day. In order to qualify for this assistance, folks will need a proof of Bangor residency, like a driver's license, mail, pay stub, etc.

SNAP benefits recipients may also be eligible for food replacement assistance, but they need to contact the Department of Health and Community Services at (207) 561-4100 to learn more about the options that are open to them.

For more information on the non-SNAP benefit replenishment assistance, Bangor residents can contact Health and Community Services at (207) 992-4530.
