Burnham ATV Rider Critically Injured In Weekend Crash [UPDATE]
Police have released more details about an ATV accident over the weekend that critically injured a Burnham man.
The Waldo County Sheriff's Office says 48-year-old Gerald Erving was driving his 2016 Yamaha four wheeler on Mount Road in Burnham when he struck the rear tire of a 2016 Can Am, being driven by his son, 20-year-old Zachary Erving. The impact caused Gerald Erving to be ejected over the handlebars of the ATV and onto Mount Road. He was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield and then flown, via Life Flight, to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with life-threatening injuries. His son was not hurt in the crash.
Investigators say neither man was wearing a helmet. Speed and alcohol appear to have been contributing factors in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
