An employee of the senior care facility where Robert Fuller, 87, died has been deemed not competent to stand trial for his murder.

Maine Millionaire Philanthropist was Murdered in His Sleep in Maryland

Maurquise James, 22, of Baltimore, Maryland, worked at the Cogir Potomac Senior Living Facility in Potomac, Maryland, where Maine millionaire Robert Fuller lived.

On February 14, 2026, Mr. Fuller was found deceased in his apartment after being shot in the head while he slept.

His roommate told investigators that a med tech had given Fuller his medications on February 13, as always, but returned later to ask if the meds had kicked in, which was not his usual routine.

James was facing attempted murder and other charges in late February, after allegedly shooting at a state trooper, when the bullet casings were found to match the gun used to kill Fuller.

He was then charged with murder.

Maryland Man Accused of Killing a Maine Millionaire is Not Competent to Stand Trial

WBAL-TV reports a judge in Montgomery County, Maryland, has now ruled that Maurquise James is not competent to stand trial, calling him a danger to society.

The judge ordered him to be held in a psychiatric facility until his next competency hearing, which is planned for November.

Maine Millionaire Robert Fuller was a Veteran, Attorney, and Well-Known Philanthropist

Fuller and his wife had moved to Maryland to be closer to family, and he stayed in the D.C. area after she passed away.

Fuller was a retired Navy Reserve officer, a well-known attorney, an author, and even spent time as the City Manager of Augusta, Maine.

But he was, perhaps, better known as a philanthropist.

Fuller made many contributions in the Augusta area, including a $1.64 million gift to improve Cony High School's Alumni Field Complex.
