The Brewer Police / Public Safety Department just announced at the end of last week, the dates for this year's Junior Public Safety classes. There will be two sessions: July 22nd - 26th, and August 5th - 9th. The classes will be held Monday - Friday each week, from 8:00a.m. - 4:00p.m.

Over the course of the week, these young students from grades 6 - 9, will be learning about many of the different aspects of public safety. Things like what a traffic stop is really like, detective work, defensive tactics, building and vehicle searches, fire safety, proper equipment usage, as well as CPR and general first aid. It definitely sounds like an action packed week!

The best part is that there's absolutely no cost to you. And, they'll get a t-shirt and a certificate of completion. But most of all, as the BPD point out in their Facebook post, it will be something that these kids will never forget.

If it sounds like fun for your kid, you can pick up an application at the Brewer Public Safety building, and will be accepted starting on May 1st, and ending on June 21st. The class size will be limited, and since applications are processed first come - first served, early enrollment is key to making sure your child gets in. If you have questions, get in touch with Officer Bouchard at 989-7001 or kbouchard@brewermaine.gov.
