Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Maine Needs ‘Bigs’
To help recruit members for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, or as they are called ‘Bigs’, Orono Brewing Company is hosting an event this afternoon between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Orono Brewing is at 61 Margin Street in Orono.
Want to make life changing results? Go for it.
Always a good idea to meet new people, network, interact, and at least hear the story.
And the story is moving. Big Brothers and Big Sisters has been active in Maine for over 100 years. Matching mentors with children to help guide them towards ‘a better life.’
The event is called 'Man Up To Mentor.' The program matches adults with children and even holds events ‘bigs’ and ‘littles’ can attend. All that is asked is a once a week meeting with your ‘little.’
In lots of cases it is just companionship and living life. Going fishing? Take them along. Doing crafts? Involve them for the afternoon. Lots of things you are already doing, they become a part of. And the experience can be life changing for them, and maybe you too.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Maine program manager Elizabeth Bushnell told WABI-TV5
We know that research shows us even children who have been through traumatic experiences, they have positive outcomes if they have at least one caring adult relationship in their life. So, we want to make sure that every child we work with has that at least one caring adult in their life.
Orono Brewing Company in Orono tonight between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Take a friend, have a bite and beer, and just listen. You might be moved to change a ‘littles’ life.
