Bangor Police Say Woman was Alleged Aggressor in Violent Attack
Bangor police say an investigation into a fight that left a woman with a head injury resulted in her arrest for assault.
Officers responded to 179 Corporate Drive at approximately 1 AM on Sunday, August 1 to a report of a woman with a significant head injury. The female told police that a man had struck her in the head with a bat. She was transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, where she was admitted for treatment.
Detectives with the Bangor Police Criminal Investigation Division began piecing together the circumstances of the assault and located an 18-year-old male transient from Chesterville. During an interview, officials noticed that the man had lacerations to his hands from some sort of edged weapon. The man told police that the injured woman, 37-year-old Jessica Higgins from Bangor, had confronted him just off Cleveland Avenue in Bangor. He said that, at the time, she had a knife taped to one hand and was armed with a bat in the other. During a struggle with the woman, he says he got control of the bat and used it in defense of the knife attack.
On Thursday, Higgins was charged with aggravated assault and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon. She's due to make her first appearance in court on September 22, 2021. The male victim refused medical treatment.
