Bangor Police Arrest a Man Who Allegedly Threatened to Stab a Cop
Bangor Police arrested a man suspected of shoplifting when he threatened to stab an officer.
Why Did Police Approach the Suspect?
It was around 1:00 Friday afternoon when police responded to a business at 520 Stillwater Avenue after learning of a man who was allegedly in the process of shoplifting. When the officer got to the location, he confronted the man, who was not cooperating. The man fought with the officer and allegedly threatened to stab him. During the struggle, a knife was removed from the man's possession.
How Was the Suspect Subdued?
While this was going on, customers in the store called 911 to report that the officer needed assistance. When more police arrived on the scene, the man was taken into custody. The first officer on the scene received minor injuries as a result of this incident
What Charges Does He Face?
He's been identified as Shawn Ashworth, 48-years-old, with no known address. Ashworth is charged with:
- Robbery
- Assault on an officer
- Theft
- Violation of conditions of release.
He was out on bail from other charges at the time of this incident.
Ashworth was taken to the Penobscot County Jail where he's being held on a probation violation hold.
