Bangor Police Announce New Deputy Chief

At the end of this month the Bangor Police Department will have a new Chief Deputy.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Paul Edwards shared some of Chief Deputy Brad Johnston's career experience in a press release.

Deputy Chief Johnston’s current assignment is with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) as a Supervisory Special Agent managing the Bangor Field Office.

Johnston started his career with the Bangor Police Department in 1997. He worked in various capacities as a patrol officer before an assignment with MDEA in 2001 as a Special Agent. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2007 and assigned to the evening patrol crew.

Deputy Chief Johnston also supervised the police department’s Special Enforcement Team. Before joining the Bangor Police Department Brad worked for the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department and the Veazie Police Department.

According to Chief Hathaway, “Brad posses the skills, knowledge and personality necessary to be very successful in this position.  Brad is community oriented, approachable and well respected by those he will manage.  The positive relationships he has built with other agencies in our region and across the state will prove beneficial as the Bangor Police Department works to meet the challenges facing law enforcement today and into the future.”

Deputy Chief Johnston said “he was honored to have been offered the position.  He said he is excited about this opportunity, looks forward to leading a skilled group of men and women and will work very hard to ensure that the police department is ready to accept the challenges ahead.”
