Bangor Police have arrested a man who they say was illegally in possession of a firearm, and added another charge as a result of their investigation.

Detectives started investigating 37-year-old Matthew Pete of Bangor on Monday, after receiving a tip that he was allegedly in possession of a firearm. Pete has a criminal history that bans him from having guns.

This week, detectives with the Bangor Police Department's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and members of the Special Response Team executed search warrants at a location on Outer Hammond Street and, as a result, Pete has been charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. In addition, he was charged with Domestic Violence Terrorizing, due to information received during the inquiry. Pete's being held without bail.

This case remains under investigation.
