A jury found a Bangor man guilty of murder for the death of his ex-fiance in 2024.
Maine Man Found Guilty of Murder for the Death of a Bangor Woman
Richard Keith Thorpe was arrested in September, 2024, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts after an arrest warrant was issued for the murder of 39-year-old Virginia Cookson, of Bangor.
Thorpe was arrested after a brief police chase that locked down nearby schools.

The arrest warrant was issued after Virginia Cookson's body was found in a home on Larkin Street in Bangor.
One of her coworkers had called for a well-being check after Cookson had failed to show up for work earlier in the week.
An autopsy revealed that she died as a result of homicide.
DNA and Video Evidence Help to Convict a Bangor, Maine Man of Murder
On Friday, a jury found Richard Thorpe guilty of murder, after about an hour of deliberation.
Evidence presented at the trial included a video recorded days before Cookson's murder, showing Thorpe angry about the breakup. Thorpe's mother said the video was sent to her, as well.
WABI-TV reports Cookson had expressed her fear of Thorpe to loved ones.
In addition, prosecutors presented Thorpe's DNA evidence on the HDMI cord wrapped around Cookson's neck, as well as around her house.
Richard Thorpe is being held without bail until his sentencing on September 1st.
