It's no secret that this summer and last summer, I helped run a Rock Camp for kids here in Bangor. Honestly, it's been some of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I don't have kids of my own, but have thoroughly enjoyed helping kids get the chance to rock out as hard as they want.

Now, thanks to some hard work, determination, and a little grant money, Bangor will now have Saturday Rock Classes starting on September 14th. Put on by the Maine Academy of Modern Music, and hosted by the the Bangor Arts Exchange, these sessions will be a chance for kids to be in a band, and get together once a week to learn and practice new songs, in a safe and supervised environment.

It's a slightly condensed version of what we do during the regular camps, but also an ongoing experience. Not only will they be learning all this material, they will also be part of various performances. So these kids will basically be functioning like any other band. Learn songs... do gigs.

It's a 12 week program, and parents can pay for the whole thing up front. It costs $250 for the whole 12 week run. And like all things with MAMM, if money is tight for your family, don't feel as though you're out of luck. there is scholarship money available for families who need it.

It kicks off in two weeks, but there is still plenty of time to sign up. You can do that right now at maineacademyofmodernmusic.org/register.

Personally, I couldn't be more excited to get this rolling. It's going to be a blast as much for me, as it is for the kids. So Bangor and beyond.... Let's rock!!!
