Soaking Rain. Let that soak in for a minute or two. Just what the Doctor ordered, or in this case the Meteorologist.

We do need rain.  Badly.

So today is expected to be the day we get started with the type of rainfall we need.  Soaking rain.

Is anyone not happy about finally getting a soaking rain, as opposed to just a downpour that dumps a lot of water at once on the porous as cement ground and it just rolls off?

That’s what we need, and that is the expected forecast for today. Gentle rain for most of the day.

Before we get into further details, I have a song stuck in my head. So how about a musical interlude?

You know the words, sing along.

Whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky

Oh, you’re back.

Luke Bryan's father was right

Lookin' up at the sky,

He'd cuss, kick the dust

sayin' son it's way too dry

Yes, gentle rain to make the grass and garden happier.  Forget about my lawn, it’s gone. But gentle rain makes the farmers’ fields more productive. The spots where Mainers fish more bountiful  And so many other great things. Like rain-making corn, and corn-making whiskey.

Much needed rain in the 3rd consecutive summer with drought conditions in the state. Rain moves into the coastal areas early to mid-morning today and continues to spread northward later this morning into this afternoon.

And if we all keep our fingers crossed, the rain will continue tonight, through the overnight, and into much of the day tomorrow.

The forecast is calling for up to 2 inches of rain before it clears out before the weekend. Maybe we’ll get more. Especially if it’s going to soak in and do the good things it’ll do for so many, near and far.

And 2 inches is just about a third of what we need to be at normal levels of rain for the month.

Will we get 4 more inches of beneficial rain before month end?  We’ll see.
