A South Dakota man is facing charges after an attempted robbery at a Fairfield bank.

Officer Casey Dugas says it was just before 9:00 when the Somerset County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call from the Skowhegan Savings Bank branch on Main Street in Fairfield. The caller said that the bank was being robbed at that moment. Officers from the Fairfield and Waterville Police Departments, as well as the Maine State Police, responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody at the bank.

Mark J. Ryder, 47 of South Dakota is charged with Attempted Robbery. Police say no weapon was shown in the attempted robbery and no one was hurt. Ryder was taken into custody at gunpoint without incident.

He was taken to the Somerset County Jail, with a court date set for June.
