An Attempted Traffic Stop in Bangor Ended With a Rollover Crash
Bangor Police say a response to a report of a suspicious person ended with a rollover crash on Hammond Street.
How Were Police Alerted to the Suspect?
Detective Lieutenant Brent Beaulieu says police received a report of someone acting suspiciously on Second Street at around 11:30 Monday night. While officers were responding to the scene, the caller told police that the man in question had started driving a BMW, which was now operating erratically in the middle of the street.
Where Was the Crash?
Police found the vehicle in question, which was still being operated very erratically on Second Street, and tried to get the driver to pull over. The dark-colored BMW almost came to a stop but then took off at a high rate of speed. The BMW turned onto Cedar Street and continued on until the driver tried to turn onto Hammond Street. At this point, he lost control of the vehicle, which hit a utility pole and rolled over.
Was the Driver Hurt?
Officials say there was only one person in the vehicle and he was transported to a local hospital by Bangor Fire Department personnel. The driver's name has not been released and there's been no comment on whether there were any contributing factors to the crash or whether any charges will be filed.
This incident remains under investigation.
