54-Year-Old Virginia Man Died While Diving in the St Croix River
The body of a Virginia man has been recovered from the St. Croix River, in Eastern Maine.
According to the Maine Marine Patrol, 54-year-old John Morris of Cape Charles, Virginia was diving with others near St. Croix Island on Thursday afternoon. No one in the group had dive tanks. At around 1:00, Morris reportedly dove to a depth of 18 feet and did not resurface. His friends tried to find Morris but were unable to locate him.
They found another diver nearby, who did have dive tanks and asked for his help. That person located Morris's body at approximately 2:45 Thursday afternoon and retrieved it from the water. Morris was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta for an autopsy. The U.S. Coast Guard is now conducting an investigation into the incident.
