Registration is open for the Camp Capella Polar Dip coming up in February.

Do You Really Jump Into Icy Water?

How long has it been since someone told you to go jump in a lake? Well, that's what we're doing right now. But not just any lake. We're talking about Phillips Lake in Dedham, which is the home of Camp Capella, a summer camp for children and adults with disabilities.

Once a year, the folks at Camp Capella invite brave, hearty souls to their piece of the lake to take a quick dip in the water. This year, it's being held on February 25th, and registration is open now. Don't worry, you don't have to stay in for long. Like the name says, just dip under the chilly water and get back out. There are always some folks standing by to help you in and back out. Once you're covered in cold water, you can hop into a hot tub to warm up. This video, from the Polar Dip a couple years ago will give you an idea of what to expect.

What If I'm Too Chicken To Jump In the Lake?

There are a couple of other ways to take part.

Be a Virtual Jumper. In this case, you can get creative, on your own time, during the month of February. Some suggestions from the Camp Capella website include taking a cold shower or rolling around in the snow while wearing a bathing suit. All they ask is that you take a video and share it on social media.

Or

Be a Jittery Jumper. This is my kind of polar dip. In this category, you don't get wet at all. Instead, just set up a fundraising page and ask people to donate money to keep you OUT of the water.

No matter how you participate, the only financial requirement is that you raise at least $100. All the money collected helps send individuals with disabilities to a fully accessible summer camp. While there, they'll fish, ride in a boat, go swimming, and do all the activities expected during the summer camp experience. Find all the information and get signed up on the Camp Capella website.

Maine & New Hampshire Tubing Parks You Need To Visit

We've put together a list of some of the best snow tubing parks in Maine and New Hampshire. If there is a park that needs to be on our list, let us know by messaging us through our app or on Facebook. Given the on-going COVID-19 crisis, and the fact the attractions are dependent on weather, you are going to want to check the park's website or call ahead to make sure they are operating.
