Winthrop Man Arrested with 19 Grams of Crack and a Handgun
A Winthrop man is facing drug trafficking charges after police seized crack cocaine and a handgun from his apartment.
Who Was Arrested?
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says Jonathan Brown, 32, of Winthrop was arrested on Wednesday after the execution of a search warrant at his Bowdoin Street apartment.
Maine Drug Enforcement Agents from Augusta's South Central Task Force have been investigating Brown, who they believed was involved in the distribution of crack cocaine throughout Kennebec County, for several months. Officials say that investigation included the undercover purchase of the drug.
What Did Drug Agents Find in the Home?
Seized in that search were approximately 19 grams of crack cocaine, and 13 grams of powder cocaine, as well as approximately $5,300 in suspected drug proceeds, and a .357 handgun. The estimated street value of the drugs seized was approximately $5,000.
After the search was completed, Brown was taken into custody and charged with class A aggravated trafficking in cocaine. The charge was elevated to 'aggravated' because of the presence of the handgun and Brown's criminal history.
He was transported to the Kennebec County Jail, where his bail was set at $30,000 in cash.
Officials say this investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely.
