The Wentworth Event Center on Route 1 in Belfast was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.

Where Was the Fire?

The wooden structure that sat on Searsport Avenue is a total loss. Situated between two hotels, the event center was just down the road from popular tourist attractions like Perry's Nut House and Young's Lobster Pound.

UPDATE: The Maine Fire Marshal's Office has determined that the fire was electrical in nature, according to WABI-TV,  and the cause has been ruled accidental.

How Bad Were the Flames When Crews Arrived?

According to the Morrill Volunteer Fire Department, they were first on the scene, along with units from Belfast, Searsport, and Belmont. When crews arrived, they discovered the fire had too big a head start and was already consuming the building. Morrill VFP released this video of their arrival, on the department's Facebook page.

Th footage shows an interesting perspective, from the point of view of one firefighter who assessed the scene and then manned a hose to try and douse the flames.

Nothing remained of the former Wentworth Event Center once the fire was done, other than some charred wood. So far, there have been no reports of any injuries.

What is the Wentworth Event Center?

The Wentworth Event Center is a family owned and operated facility that hosts weddings and events on the Belfast waterfront. In a post on the center's Facebook page, the owners expressed their gratitude to everyone who's reached out. A picture of three smiling people on the center's Facebook page was accompanied by the owners' hope that the spirit of the place lives on.

So many wonderful, joyous, and impactful memories have been created at this property. Let's keep that alive.

The State Fire Marshal's Office will investigate to determine how the fire started.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
