The name of the victim of a Waterville shooting has been released, and the police have arrested a Fairfield man.

Officials Say the Victim of a Waterville Shooting Was Found in a Vehicle

Maine State Police have identified the victim as Stephen Killam, 47, of Fairfield. His body was found in a vehicle in the parking lot of Mount Joseph at Waterville, 7 Highwood Street.

The Suspect is From Clinton and Was Located Thanks to Eyewitness Accounts

Waterville Police had been called to the location after reports of multiple gunshots. Witnesses told authorities they saw a black Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck leaving the scene and were able to provide a license plate number for the officers. Several Waterville area schools were placed on lockout while the investigation continued, which means that activities and classes inside the school were carried on as usual. All exterior doors were locked and all outdoor activities were suspended until the lockout was lifted.

Area police agencies were alerted to be on the lookout for the vehicle and just before 9:00 Wednesday morning, Clinton Police Chief Rusty Bell located the vehicle and its driver, Richard Hatt, 53, of Clinton. Maine State Police were called in to assist in the investigation that led to Hatt being charged with murder. He has been taken to the Kennebec County Jail. Officials say Killam and Hatt were known to each other. Mr. Hatt's body has been taken to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Maine State Police are Assisting in the Investigation
