A Maine Man Died In a Crash While On His Honda Goldwing Motorcycle
Thomas Welch, 42, of Porter was riding a Honda Goldwing motorcycle at the time of the crash.
The Motorcycle Hit a Tractor Trailer in Waterford Head-On
The Oxford County Sheriff's Office says their Deputy Sergeant Timothy Ontengco was engaged in a high-speed pursuit of Welch's motorcycle at approximately 10:00 on the morning of September 30th when the crash happened. Welch was headed southbound on Route 93, also known as Sweden Road in Waterford, when his motorcycle crossed the center line and crashed into a tractor-trailer traveling northbound.
An 18-Wheeler Involved in the Fatal Crash Was Hauling Sewage
Sergeant Ontengco and other witnesses at the scene performed CPR and tried to provide first aid to the driver, but he died at the scene. The driver of the truck, Shawn Witham of Rome, Maine, was not hurt. The rig was registered to Dube Environmental Inc. out of Sidney. Officials say the tractor-trailer was disabled as a result of the crash but there were no environmental concerns as the tank, filled with sewage from the Fryeburg Fair, was intact.
Several agencies are cooperating in the investigation of this incident.
