A Greene man, who was wanted by police on domestic violence charges, shot himself in the head while being taken into custody.

Centralmaine.com reports Joshua Hussey was listed in critical condition Saturday evening at Central Maine Medical center. State Police had asked for the public's help locating Hussey, who had active warrants on domestic violence terrorizing and for violating several protection orders.

When police tracked him to his mother's house in Dixfield, they went there to arrest him at 2 a.m. Saturday. The idea was to catch him by surprise, to minimize danger. But as the troopers were taking Hussey into custody, he shot himself in the head. No shots were fired by police.

Because of threats Hussey had allegedly made against family and friends, police cautioned the public that he was possibly armed and dangerous when they asked for information about his whereabouts.
