Time to check In with the Veazie Salmon Club. Their next meeting is tomorrow night, and although the main purpose as one might imagine of a Salmon club, is indeed fishing, they have other news to announce.

Veazie Salmon Club provides an annual Scholarship to a deserving student each year attending the University of Maine,  and they have been this for over 20 years.

The meeting is open to attend, and even lots of current members will be learning all about this endowment donation for the first time.

What is that statement about doing good things and not boasting about them?

This year the deserving student from the University of Maine that will receive the scholarship is James Pyle.

James is a Junior with a Major in Wildlife Ecology and Military Science Leadership. He is also an Army ROTC cadet. Originally from Fort Wainwright, Alaska, James is excited to be the recipient this year.

Your friends at the Veazie Salmon Club said:

As soon as he heard, he walked right over between classes and signed the release form. He seemed thrilled about the scholarship and is very happy to talk with the Salmon Club members

James will be a guest at the meeting tomorrow night

So will Kevin J Frazier, Chief Financial Officer from the University of Maine Foundation, who will also attend and speak.

So it is a lot more than just fishing.

15 Must-Have Items For Ice Fishing Season In Maine

Ice fishing is an excellent way to embrace the cold winter months in Maine. It will get you outdoors for some fresh air, it's family friendly, and a successful day could yield a tasty dinner. If you're new to the sport, we put together a list of gear you'll need for a fun, comfortable, and successful day on the ice. Some of these items are more essential than others. Some gear may not be essential at all, depending on how you plan to fish. Again, the items we listed are geared towards those who are new to ice fishing.

Before we get to the list, remember to dress appropriately for the cold weather. We didn't put warm outerwear on the list, but it's definitely a must-have. Dressing in layers is important to ensure you're warm enough throughout the day on the ice. If you start getting too warm, you can simply take a layer off. Hand warmers are also worth packing.
