While they initially thought it would be a little later in the month, the Hathaway Holiday Lights folks have managed to open their display early this year. Opening their display on December 1st, Rick Hathaway said that they have also exceeded their goal of having 100,000 lights, with the addition of some new elements.

For years, the Hathaway family has put on a local light show, collecting donations for the Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

It started at their home in Bangor, but as it expanded, and the display became a popular destination for folks looking for holiday lights to admire, they moved the operation to the front lawn of the Veazie Community School.

This year, the display will run from 4:30-9:00 PM through December 9th. On December 10th they will expand the hours a bit from 4:00 to 9:30 PM through Christmas Day.

According to the Hathaway Holiday Lights Facebook Page, they also have a special "Live" aspect they'll be adding to one of the nights in the middle of this month.

"We have some exciting news this year. December 16th we are welcoming Grammy Nominated singer-songwriter, Judy Pancoast, to sing live with the lights. The festivities will be from 5:30-7:30 with the concert starting at 6. Along with having Judy performing live, we will have Santa and his Reindeer, hot chocolate and cookies for all to enjoy."
