
Unity Man Accused of Shooting at a Forest Ranger Before Standoff
A Unity man is facing charges after allegedly shooting at a Maine Forest Ranger, which led to a standoff.
Officials Say the Man Faces a Firearms Charge
Sharod D. Parker, 38, of Unity is charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. He was booked into the Waldo County Jail.

The Incident Began As An Investigation Into Illegally Cut Trees
It was just after 1:00 Monday afternoon when the Waldo County Regional Communications Center learned that a Maine Forest Ranger was requesting assistance at 118 Jacy Place in Unity. The Ranger said that he had allegedly been shot at while investigating a report of some trees that were being cut illegally. Officials say two shots were fired, allegedly by Parker, one of which was fired in the Ranger's direction. The Ranger was not hit by either shot and radioed for assistance, which prompted a large response from several agencies, including Maine Forest Service helicopters and a Maine State Police Tactical Team.

One Man Was Taken Into Custody and a Search Warrant Executed
At approximately 3:30 Monday afternoon, a man and two women in handcuffs could be seen being interviewed by police. Parker was taken into custody by the Waldo County Sheriff's Office, while the women were released. According to the Morning Sentinel, one of the women could be heard saying that she didn't even know there was anyone on the property.
Sheriff's Deputies and members of the Maine Forest Service executed a search warrant at the home and seized evidence items. So far, no motive for the incident has been released.
