Two people were hurt when a vehicle in Cary Plantation struck a tree.

State Police say it was just after 3:30 Friday morning when they received a call of a single-vehicle crash on Route 1 in Cary Plantation. Trooper Jared Sylvia said the driver, 21-year-old Arthur Russell, fell asleep behind the wheel. The pickup went off the road to the right and struck a tree.

Russell and passenger Donald Oliver had to be extricated from the pickup by the Houlton Fire Department and were taken to the hospital. Russell was treated for minor injuries and released. Oliver's injuries were more serious but not life threatening. The 2005 GMC Sierra was demolished in the accident.
