
Tremont, Maine Deaths Investigated as a Murder-Suicide
The deaths of two people in Tremont are now being investigated as the murder-suicide of a married couple.
Maine State Police Release the Identities of 2 Deceased People in Tremont
Maine State Police have identified the deceased:
- William Hawley, 75, of Tremont.
- Jyoti Hawley, 78, of Tremont.
Officials say William and Jyoti were husband and wife.
Maine State Police Investigating 2 Deaths in Tremont
An investigation into the deaths began on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, when members of the Southwest Harbor Police Department responded to a 911 call about an incident near 11 Big Rocks Road in Tremont.
When the officers arrived, they found two deceased people at the scene. The bodies were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for autopsies.
Those examinations confirmed their identities and listed their deaths as a murder-suicide. Both of the Hawleys died of gunshot wounds.

Authorities say the examinations also revealed that Jyoti's death was a homicide, while William's was ruled a suicide.
Maine State Police Seek Info About Murder-Suicide in Tremont
