As temperatures are forecasted to hover near the triple digits this week, folks across Eastern Maine are trying to think cool. And many have thoughts of beating the heat at their local pool. We decided to find out when the pools in the area would be opening for the season, so we made some calls. The bad news: for most municipal pools in the area, it's not this very second. So as far as taking a cooling dip goes, you'll have to find another alternative. The good news: many pools plan to open in just a couple of weeks...if we can only sit tight and try our best not to melt till then!

Both Bangor Pools, The Beth Pancoe Pool and The Dakin Pool will open Friday June 25th at 1PM. We're told that there are no limits to the amount of people that can be in the pool area at one time, at the moment, but they're playing that by ear. Bangor Parks and Rec are encouraging folks who are not vaccinated, to continue social distancing. For more info on their hours of operations, you can click on their website, or check out their Facebook Page.

In Brewer, the pool will open the same day (the 25th) but will be limiting the number of people allowed in, and will be limiting the time for general and family swim sessions. You can find out more at the Brewer Parks and Rec Facebook page or their website.

The Orono Municipal Pool hopes to open the last week in June, with a 50 person limit, but that all depends on whether they can staff the pool this year. If you know of anyone interested in being a Lifeguard in Orono, have them check out this site.

The pool at the Old Town/Orono YMCA  is open and currently providing swim lessons. You can find more information here.

Folks in the Ellsworth and Blue Hill have the option to swim either of the Down East Family YMCA Pools year round. For details on either the Lawrence Pool Schedule in Blue Hill or the Wiggins Pool Schedule in Ellsworth, click here.

The Tim Emery Municipal Pool in Bucksport will also be opening by the end of the month. They will be limiting the number of people who can be in the pool to 50 at a time.

In Hampden, The Laura Hoit Pool is also open year round. It currently has a limit of 25 in the building. They do ask if you have not been vaccinated, or you are under 12, that masks are worn while in the building with the exception of when you are in the pool.

So while you may have to resort to soaking in a kiddie pool in the back yard, sitting in a cold bathtub while sipping that fruity drink, or making fast friends with the fella from next door, who has a pool, public pools will be opening soon. So just hang in there a little bit longer!
