Divers from the Maine State Police are in Rangeley this week, conducting under-the-ice search and recovery training exercises, said Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

The training exercises are taking place on Rangeley Lake.

Teams normally have 30 inches of ice to contend with, but due to mild temperatures this winter, the ice on the lake is only 18 inches thick, McCausland said.

Divers from the Connecticut State Police are also in Rangeley this week. Dive teams from other New England states are expected in Maine next week as the training exercises continue.
