St. Albans 14-Year-Old Dies, 3 Others Hurt in Pickup Crash
A 14-year-old boy was killed in the crash of a pickup truck that also injured three others.
Where Was the Crash?
The crash on Dudley Brook Road in St. Albans was reported just after 2:00 Friday afternoon. Somerset County Sheriff's deputies found four teenagers with a pickup truck. Two were in the cab and two had been riding in the bed of the truck.
How Did It Happen?
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash determined that the 18-year-old male driver had lost control of the vehicle, which traveled off the roadway, and struck a tree. WGME-TV reports a 14-year-old boy from St. Albans, who had been riding in the bed of the truck, was taken by ambulance to a Pittsfield hospital, where he died from injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver and the other two passengers were taken by a private vehicle to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. None of the occupants' names have been released.
Were There Any Contributing Factors?
Officials say excessive speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
