Soaking Rain Expected For Bangor + Downeast Thursday
A storm will bring heavy rain to much of Maine overnight into Thursday.
The National Weather Service is forecasting over an inch of rain for most of the Bangor and Downeast areas Thursday. Forecasters say rain will develop overnight Wednesday, and becomes heavy at times by Thursday morning. The storm is expected to soak much of Maine with near an inch and a half of rain. Areas from the coast, north to near Lincoln, will likely see over an inch of rainfall. Northern areas of the state may see heavy mixed precipitation at times, Thursday evening.
The spring thaw is in full effect in Aroostook County, where the storm has prompted a Flood Watch. A few rivers may reach flood stage overnight, into Thursday. Continuing melting of snow and ice, and new expected rainfall, will likely add to river level rises. The conditions lead to the potential for ice movement and ice jam flooding. An ice jam formed earlier this week on the Aroostook River between Caribou and Fort Fairfield.
The National Weather Service urges those living near flooding prone rivers to check the latest flood statements for information on ice jams across northern Maine.
