Recent headlines in the massive delivery service industry this week are showing that Amazon has taken the #3 spot for most delivered packages from a major delivery service. With this, FedEx has been overtaken by Amazon, while UPS holds steady with the #2 most US package shipment volume per year and USPS the #1.

In 2020, USPS delivered almost 7.5 billion packages, UPS delivered almost 5.5 billion packages, Amazon delivered over 4 billion packages and FedEx delivered just over 3 billion packages. The pandemic was a catalyst for most of the delivery services for an increase in package shipments, with Amazon showing the most increase in activity between 2019 and 2020, going from under 2 billion packages in 2019 to over 4 billion in 2020.

This information was released in September but for some reason is making headlines this week. This news, however, is a bit surprising for someone living in the Bangor area.

First, it's not surprising to me that Amazon is making some mad money nowadays since online ordering and delivery of online items have increased since the emergence of the pandemic. This part does not surprise me. But, I don't know about you, but I'm not seeing any Amazon trucks up here in Bangor.

I believe Amazon is being used immensely in the Bangor area but I'm not seeing Amazon making deliveries. So, with all of this news that Amazon is delivering more packages than mega-delivery service FEDEX kind of puzzles me because I don't see it in Bangor.

Perhaps Amazon is employing locals to use their own vehicles? I don't even know!

Where is Amazon's presence in Bangor if this company is now #3 in the delivery business in the U.S.? This is what I want to be answered.
