A person who died after sustaining severe burns in a house fire has been identified as an 80-year-old man.

Officials Have Not Released the Identity of a Skowhegan Fire Victim

Janusz Jankiewicz, 80, passed away last week from injuries sustained in the fire.

The Victim Made It Out of the House But Suffered Severe Burns

The State Fire Marshal's Office was called in by the Skowhegan Fire Department just after 3:00 Thursday afternoon for a house fire at 706 Waterville Road in Skowhegan. Mr. Jankiewicz was able to make it out of the house but suffered severe burns. He was transported to Reddington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan where he was listed in critical condition on Thursday.

On Friday, Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says he was flown to Northern Light Maine Medical Center in Portland Thursday due to the extent of his injuries before passing away early Friday morning.

They remind residents that we're moving into the heating season, so it's time to change smoke detector batteries and service your heating equipment. In addition, it's important to have an exit plan in the event of an emergency.
