The Searsport Suspect Refused to Call Off His Dog As It Approached the Officers
It was around 1:43 Monday afternoon when Searsport Police tried to stop Damon's vehicle after they received information that he was driving erratically on East Main Street. When Damon didn't stop, police pursued him for about three miles before he pulled over on Porter Street. Police say Damon and his dog exited the vehicle.
When the dog started moving toward the officers, they commanded Damon to call his dog back. He refused to do so and the dog continued to approach the officer in a way that led them to believe it might attack. One of the officers fired one round into the dog's shoulder, prompting the dog to retreat to Damon. At this point, Damon was taken into custody and transported to the Waldo County Correctional Facility.
Police Took the Dog to a Veterinary Hospital for Treatment
Police Chief Brian Lunt loaded the dog into his vehicle and took it to the Searsport Veterinary Hospital for treatment. There's no word on the dog's current condition.
