Searsmont Fire Leaves Two People With Injuries

Brutal Weather Made Fighting the Searsmont Fire Challenging
The fire was called in just before 7:00 Thursday evening. With assistance from several neighboring towns, crews battled the fire for at least three hours before getting it under control. Weather played a part in the firefighting efforts as temperatures were in the low to mid-20s, with gusting winds that fanned the flames. That, accompanied by a fresh layer of snow on the second day of Spring, made this a challenging fire to fight.
The Cause of the Fire on Ghent Road is Under Investigation
The Maine State Fire Marshals Office will investigate how the fire started.
