ROAD TRIP WORTHY: The Ice Palaces Of Bethel

A winter wonderland awaits you, family and friends, with a view that simply must be seen to be believed.

Last year the Ice Palaces in Boothbay were a huge attraction for people from all over. It is worth the trip to take a drive to check out beautiful ice sculptures, to take in all the sights and sounds, and to take advantage of one of my personal favorite things…food trucks featuring everything from hot pizza, warm apple cider, street tacos, seafood, and many more delicious treats.

Beginning on Saturday, Jan. 29, this seasonal event will move to the town of Bethel this year, at Bethel Outdoor Adventure & Campground, which is located on the banks of the Androscoggin River on Route 2 in Bethel. Bethel, of course, is the home of Sunday River Ski Resort, and it is about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from right here in Bangor. But hey, sometimes it is important to take a road trip, to break up the monotony of a long, cold winter.

You can tour this beautiful visual treat every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during the winter months, with two chances per today to enjoy it. Afternoons from noon-4pm, then again after dark, from 4 pm-9:30 pm.

Get those tickets at the Northeast Ice Palaces website while you can. They are very reasonably priced at $15 during the day and $19 at night.
