Maine Olympian Nathan Pare Disqualified in Milan
The 21-year-old snowboarding Olympian from Bethel finished in first place in his quarterfinal event before that decision was reversed.
When the Olympics roll around, it’s always easier to root for Team USA, but it’s even more special when you’re cheering for someone from your own home state—and that’s exactly the case with this athlete.

Nathan Pare saw his run for gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics come to an abrupt end on Day 6, February 12th, when the second snowboarding quarterfinal didn’t go as he had hoped.
After spending much of the race near the back of the pack, Pare appeared to gain momentum around a turn, but his board became tangled with Spain’s Lucas Eguibar, and contact between the two boards caused Eguibar to lose his balance and fall.

Pare initially held onto his third-place position after the incident and then surged into first place on the final jump of the course, appearing to secure a thrilling comeback.
However, his celebration was short-lived as judges quickly reviewed the quarterfinal run and ultimately disqualified him for the collision. This decision sparked a blunt reaction from Pare, with microphones catching him saying, “That’s insane,” in response to the ruling.
The broadcasters working the quarterfinal livestream also shared their thoughts, suggesting the stumble appeared accidental rather than intentional.
However, since judges ruled the collision involving Pare as deliberate, he was unable to advance to the semifinals, and France’s Jonas Chollet and Loan Bozzolo moved on instead.

And there you have it! Nathan Pare was disqualified from the men’s snowboard cross quarterfinals at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
