Maine Man Accused of Assaulting his Ex is Arrested After Standoff
A Belgrade man is accused of assaulting his ex-wife before a standoff with Maine State Police in Readfield.
The 71-Year-Old Suspect Faces Mulitple Charges
Carl Hiebert, 71, of Belgrade is charged with domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a firearm, and domestic violence assault.
Hiebert's Ex-Wife Reported to Police That He Had a Gun
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says it was just after 6:00 Tuesday evening when the Augusta Regional Communications Center received a domestic violence complaint from a 70-year-old woman in Readfield. She told dispatchers that her ex-husband, Hiebert, had a firearm and had assaulted her at her Morrill Road home. The couple's 41-year-old son, who lives at the address, was also in the residence.
When the Troopers arrived, they found the female victim in the driveway. She was safely removed from the scene and treated by Winthrop Rescue. The son was able to get out safely on his own.
After a Standoff, the Suspect Was Taken Into Custody
A perimeter was set up around the residence with help from the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office, Maine State Police Tactical Team, and Crisis Negotiation Team. Mr. Hebert was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility.
