Portland Police Say Homicide Victim Was Homeless Man
Portland Police say a homicide victim whose body was found outside One City Center was a homeless man.
The man has been identified as Sunao Thomas Yamada, 54, of Portland. Police have not revealed how he died, but say the death is a homicide. Yamada is believed to have died sometime after 3:20 a.m. Sunday, which is the last time he was seen alive. At that time, he was accompanied by a white man, believed to be between 25 and 30 years old, who is about 6 feet tall, with a thin build and dark hair. The two were seen together not far from where Yamada's body was found less than two hours later.
Yamada's family is from out of state, but he'd been a resident of Portland for about 20 years. He was homeless and was often seen in Monument Square and on Temple Street, where he died.
Anyone with information about the homicide or the man who was last seen with Yamada is urged to contact the Portland Police Department at (207) 874-8575. In particular, police are interested in anyone who may have security cameras that would have captured images of Monument Square and Temple, Free, and Middle Streets early Sunday.
