Paul LePage Questions Missing $1.9M in Lewiston Donations
The former Maine governor has joined prominent state Republicans in questioning where the money raised went following the tragedy.
Former Maine Governor Paul LePage is the only Republican so far to announce a campaign for the 2nd District seat held by Democrat Jared Golden, with primaries in June 2026 and the general election on November 3rd, 2026.

LePage says he wants answers about nearly $2 million donated after the Lewiston mass shooting in 2023, which left 18 people dead and more wounded.
In a news release, LePage expressed ‘deep concern’ that money intended for victims and families may have gone to politically aligned organizations instead.

It was reported that $4.7 million from the Lewiston shooting fundraiser went directly to victims and families, while $1.9 million was shared among 29 nonprofits.
As reported by WGME, each nonprofit explained how they used their share of the money, ranging from providing counseling services to supporting community programs and long-term recovery efforts.
After LePage’s press release, several Republican leaders echoed his concerns and demanded the same answers about the Lewiston donations.
The Maine Attorney General’s Office noted that after calls last year for investigations, it reviewed the matter and found no wrongdoing.

And there you have it! LePage has expressed concern that nearly $2 million may not have ended up where it was originally intended.
