One Person is Dead After a House Fire in Carmel
Fire officials found a deceased person when responding to a fire in Carmel Friday afternoon.
Where Was the Fire?
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says the Carmel Fire Department was called to a residential fire at 26 Haskell Street just before 3:00 Friday afternoon. When they arrived, they discovered that one person had died as a result of the fire. Multiple agencies were called in to help battle the blaze.
Have Police Identified the Deceased?
The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta to determine the cause of death and positively identify them. Officials believe the person to be Joseph Jack, 70, who lived in the home with his wife. He was home alone at the time of the fire.
How Did the Fire Start?
An investigation is underway by the State Fire Marshal's Office to figure out how the fire started, but officials say there's no indication of foul play.
