Old Town Police Invite Kids to Fish at Casting With a Cop Event
In a creative twist on the Coffee with a Cop events, Old Town Police are inviting kids to go fishing, or Casting with a Cop.
Fishing is Fun
I have personal reasons for loving this event just announced by the Old Town Police Department. I came to fishing late in life, when I decided to learn so that I would occasionally see my bass-fishing-obsessed husband. He guaranteed I'd catch a fish on my first trip and he was right. Third cast and I had a beaut. I was hooked. (pun intended)

It's Like Coffee With a Cop for Kids
Police agencies around the state have been hosting 'Coffee with a Cop' events for several years now. They're chances to meet with members of local law enforcement in a less stressful situation because, let's face it, when most of us interact with officers it's because we were speeding or our registration is expired. Sitting down to talk about the Celtics with some Mainers who just happen to wear uniforms every day gives residents a different perspective on the people riding around in cruisers. So why not extend that altered perspective to kids? That's what Old Town Police are hoping to do with the Casting with a Cop event.
My Bad, This is the Shortest of Notices
It's happening on Saturday, June 1st, from 9 to noon at the Fourth Street Boat Launch. I apologize for the last-minute notice. I just learned about this and the RSVP for this event has to be in by the end of today, Thursday, May 30th. Email Sergeant Loring at jloring@oldtownpd.org if you're interested in going.
If you don't make it this year, keep it in mind for next year. I'm guessing this will become a fun and family-friendly annual event.
