Old Orchard Beach Man Accused Of Killing Roommate

An  Old Orchard Beach man is charged with murder for the death of his roommate.

Public Service spokesman Steve McCausland says State and local police arrested 40-year-old Dustan Bentley for the death of his roommate, 65-year-old William Popplewell. The State Medical Examiner determined Popplewell was killed sometime Monday night and the cause of death is listed as stabbing and blunt force trauma. So far, police haven't commented on a motive for the death.

Popplewell and Bentley were known to stay at the Oxford Street Shelter in Portland. However, for the past two months, they had been living together in an apartment at 5 Boisvert Street in Old Orchard Beach.

Bentley is charged with murder and will make his first court appearance in York County at 1:00 Wednesday afternoon.
