Maine Fire Officials Say Home Explosion Was Caused By Propane
Officials have determined the cause of an explosion that destroyed a house in Sinclair on Saturday and then caught a neighboring house on fire.
A Resident in the Explosion Was Taken to a Local Hospital
Crews from several area communities responded to a report of an explosion at a home at 441 Shore Road in Sinclair Saturday evening. The owner of that residence was home at the time of the explosion and was transported to a local hospital. His name has not been released but Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says his injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening.
The Second House's Homeowner Wasn't Hurt
The explosion at 441 Shore Road caused a second home to catch fire. The homeowner of that residence was inside at the time but escaped the fire unharmed.
Investigators Are Working to Find Out What Caused the Explosion
Both homes are considered a total loss. The State Fire Marshal's Office has determined a propane release and ignition caused the explosion. WABI-TV reports the blast sent debris at least 300 feet into the air.
We'll update this story as more details become available.
