A motorcycle rider who was hurt in an accident in Waterville on Thursday has died of his injuries, according to a press release from the Waterville Police Department.

James Bolduc, 53, was pronounced dead at Maine Medical Center in Portland Friday afternoon, the release said.

Bolduc was driving behind an SUV on College Avenue when a third vehicle backed onto the road from Cottage Street, Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said. The SUV slowed down to avoid hitting the third vehicle and Bolduc's motorcycle collided with the SUV, Rumsey said.

Bolduc suffered a serious head injury and was transported by Delta to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Unit. He was later transported by Life Flight to Maine Medical Center.

Rumsey said Bolduc was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and multiple facets of the accident remain under investigation.
